  • Is Shivanasamudra same as Gaganachukki falls?
    The waterfalls are located at a distance of about 139 km from Bangalore and about 60 km from Mysore. The eastern branch of the waterfall is known as Barachukki while the western branch is known as Gaganachukki. Barachukki and Gaganachukki waterfalls are together known as the Shivanasamudra Falls
  • Shiavasamudram is supposed to be the second largest waterfalls in India. When the rivers of Cauvery and Kabini flood together these waterfalls become a mesimerizing sight.
  • Archaeologists digging up the sand dunes spread over 4-5 square km in Old Talakadu, have unearthed artefacts as old as 4,000 years. A file photo of the famous Kirthinarayana Temple at Talakadu surrounded by sand dunes.
  • The temple was consecrated in 1258 CE by Somanatha Dandanayaka, a general of the Hoysala King Narasimha III. It is located 38 kilometres (24 mi) east of Mysuru city. The ornate temple is a model illustration of the Hoysala architecture.
  • The temple was destroyed during Muslim attacks in the Hoysala kingdoms. The first attack was by Malik Kafur, Alauddin Khilji's general in 1311 and in 1326 Muhammad Bin Tughlaq destroyed the remaining structures. Some parts of the temples were restored by Vijayanagara Kings and later by Wodeyars of Mysuru.
  • Balamuri is a popular picnic spot where tourists and local people go to spend time with their family and friends. It is a scenic and artificial waterfall created because of the construction of a concrete barrier across the flowing Cauvery.
  • There is a Cauvery river near by Talakadu temple. You can swim in the river. The river has a great width but it is not deep at all.
